I made 1,000 or so 20 second exposures last night: Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ISO 6400, Lightroom for dehaze and noise reduction, Starstax for the composite. Go ahead – order a print – you know you want to!

Manual focus (prefocus before it gets dark, tape it down), Canon 17-40 on tripod, f/5.6 or so, ISO 400, Bulb mode (shutter stays open as long as you press the shutter). These are 2,3 ,4, or 5 second exposures, trying to capture only one, interesting burst. These are the 15 prettiest, out of 150 frames. Lightroom to adjust exposure, and crop. Prints here.

Lightning in Taos Canyon
Posted in 5DMII, Long exposures, Wide Angle with tags lightning on June 22, 2016 by budbranch10 second exposure @ f/5.6, ISO 100, 17mm
I mounted the camera on a tripod, set focus to manual, focused with live view. With camera on manual mode, experimented with ISO and aperture to get reasonable exposure using 10 second shutter, then locked-down the shutter so it would shoot unlimited 10-second exposures. Out of 300 or so frames, this was the keeper!
